WHAT SHE SEES.
What She Sees: A Story Investigating Body Image is a children's book that came out of my eating disorder recovery. Since 2018 I have lived in recovery from a decade-long eating disorder. My hope is that this book will spark a conversation between young children and their parents about positive body image.
THE STORY.
In the story What She Sees, a young girl grows up with a magical mirror. She and her mirror grow apart as their opinions of Girl diverge. Healing is found when Girl is able to accept her body in its imperfect state and see what mirror had seen all along, “A radiant girl, ready to take on the world.”
"The societal message that the bodies we are born with aren't okay starts at a tragically early age and has significant impacts on mental and physical health. What She Sees is an invaluable tool for starting conversations with young readers about body image and self-love."

"What She Sees: A Story Investigating Body Image is a beautifully written and illustrated book that captures the internal war with our bodies that many of us find ourselves trapped in at various stages of life. Body image is impacting kids younger and younger and this story delicately explains this struggle for children or adults who are working on healing their relationship with their body. The concept that we are more than our physical appearance cannot be emphasized enough in our society. The thoughtful questions at the end of Girl are questions I myself would ask in therapy sessions to promote introspection and increase conversation around body image and I recommend this book for all ages as a place to start that reflection and growth.
